Bilingual Director, CEO. Degree level educated with a background covering company start-ups, restructuring, sales, manufacturing, logistics and Technology. Broad, well-rounded International experience.

Strengths include the ability to lead and motivate, sound business acumen with an eye for financial detail and cost control, and an ability to recognise and implement simple creative solutions to difficult problems. Considerable front line experience gained initially during the setting up and running of my own companies, later as Managing Director of the German manufacturing subsidiary of an American company and then as Main Board Director of a German PLC. I have undertaken a number of trouble-shooting and growth roles and enjoy the challenge of re-structuring.

A shirtsleeve manager, I enjoy leading from the front and trying to get the best from people by developing creative thinking and personal initiative. I have encouraged and been involved with the design and implementation of a number of innovative solutions to difficult problems and have been named as the inventor on a number of Patent applications. I understand technology and its applications and can recognise good ideas that may not be immediately apparent to others.

Extensive international experience of European (in particular German) and Far Eastern manufacturing business. Solid practical experience of working in Germany, America, Australia and Japan at a senior management level, negotiating with financial institutions and liasing with Blue Chip customers.

Naturally entrepreneurial in nature, I have been involved in raising seed and refunding finance for young and established companies. I am a self-starter; enjoy solving varied difficult problems and work well under stress.

I am a regular public speaker and have addressed various industry groups including The Marketing Society, Enterprise Lanarkshire, Museum of Scotland and trade Missions in Sweden (jointly with Patricia Hewitt) and Russia (jointly with the British Ambassador). I am comfortable dealing with the press have appeared or been Interviewed on TV several times including Newsnight (BBC) and CEO in the Hotseat (Bloomberg).

In recent years my passion for helping young companies, pushing innovation and encouraging a strong research base in Scotland has brought me into close contact with the Political establishment. In 2002 I was named a Friend of Scotland by Helen Liddell and have worked closely with various members of the Scottish Executive on issues such as broadband in Scotland and Innovation within the Creative Industries.

During my time at DAG the company won many awards including "Restructuring of the Year" and the prestigious "D&T Fast Fifty".
